Shearing at Kobler

Shearing Days

We understand that sometimes it can be hard to find an available shearer particularly for weekends at the height of shearing time as they book up quickly. For this reason in conjunction with Prados Alpacas we hold a number of shearing days on farm where you bring along your alpacas and they are shorn while you wait. Booking for these days is still important to ensure we do not get bottle necks so we will provide a time slot. We do provide discounts for larger numbers however it may be easier for us to come to you.

Further information about 2013 on farm shearing days can be found here.

Shearing for health

While there are some studies being conducted into not shearing older huacaya with very short fleece every year of which we eagerly await the outcome it is our firm belief that huacaya should be shorn every year. There are a number of reasons for this. It guarantees that at least once a year your alpaca gets a very good look over for problems which may not otherwise be spotted. Shearing provides a good time to ensure vaccinations are up to date. It is very convenient time to check toenails and teeth.
